We came down for
my husbands birthday and just to unwind from the daily grind. The
pictures online don't do it justice! Everything was wonderful. Tanya
hasn't left any detail out. It is peaceful, serene, comfortable and so
relaxing. We didn't get to see Daisy, but we did meet Tanya, and she is a
wonderful person. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing
your little slice of heaven. We will be back!!

Me and my sisters
take a yearly trip and this is our second year at Doc's. We absolutely
love this place. We have never stayed at a place so clean and adorable.
The hot tub is the best! And love the covered, screened porch. This is
where we had all our meals. We even tried our luck at fishing this
year...... No luck but no worries because we have already decided we
will be back next year. I recommend this beautiful cabin get away to
anyway who wants a clean, safe, private place to relax and enjoy each
other's company!
FANTASTIC!!!

We rented Doc's
Lakeside Cabin for the weekend of my wifes birthday. Even though it was
only an hour from home, this little cabin and its surroundings were
more than what we expected. The pictures on the website were amazing,
and in person, even more so. The cabin was immaculate and cozy, had all
the amenities that one could hope for in a little cozy cabin. We were
greeted by the owners dog daisy and she was just so sweet and loveable.
The sunsets over the lake were amazing while we sat in the hot tub under
the stars at night. We cant wait to get back and maybe spend a little
more time there next year.

This
lovely cabin provided our family with a wonderful vacation. Peaceful
environment. The home is beautifully decorated and very, very clean.
The property is beautifully landscaped and the hot tub is well
maintained. Friendly and helpful owners. Nearby, we enjoyed horseback
riding, trail hiking, and zip-lining. The Blue Boar provided an
excellent meal following our zip-lining excursion. At the cabin, we also
enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub, watching movies, and dining on the
screened in porch. We didn't want to leave and we hope to return to
this beautiful place in the future.

Once you stay at Doc's Lakeside cabin you will no longer want to stay anywhere else! This place is perfect!! It's extremely well maintained, sparkling clean, beautifully decorated, and has a perfect setting for a relaxing, peaceful, romantic getaway. It's location is near many attractions, restaurants, and wineries. We suggest trying the zip lining in Makanda for an adventure during your visit to Southern Illinos. The problem we have is that we love this place so much we don't want to leave once we are there. And to top it all off the owners are great hosts and welcome you as if you are family. I promise, you won't be disappointed...you will have a new favorite spot too!
Great Get-Away!

The cabin was immaculate and
tastefully decorated. While the hot tub was large and enjoyable, the
best part was the screened in porch. The weather was cold and rainy,
but curling up on the spacious screen porch in comfy blankets from the
cabin and reading all afternoon was just what the doctor ordered. I
must return in warmer weather to enjoy the outdoor activities the area
offers!

This was an awesome place to
stay and an awesome experience! We have two very small children and this
was the perfect place for them. They loved being able to go out onto
the deck and down to the water to fish. It was so nice being able to put
them in bed and go down to the dock or get into the hot tub. You
definitely can't do that at a hotel! The cabin was perfectly clean and
had everything we needed for our stay. Tanya was so nice and helpful
before and during our stay. We couldn't have asked for anything better.

We have been enjoying the
Shawnee National Forest for many years now. Over the past 10 years or
so we have rented a number of cabins and houses. This property is the
very best one we have ever stayed in so far. It is quite comfortable,
well decorated and maintained, and blissfully secluded! It has all the
amenities one could want - a fire pit by the lake, a great hot tub, a
very large screened in porch, and a home with an open floor plan and
lots of space. It is close to hiking and wineries. It was just a
wonderful place for some rest and relaxation. We are recommending it to
all of our friends!

My husband, son, friend, and I
really enjoyed our time at Doc's Lakeside Cabin. It is much more than a
cabin and the setting was very peaceful. We spent most of one day
touring the local wineries and it was a pleasant place to return to and
enjoy the hot tub, lake, and have a cozy fire. I would love to return
some time in the future.

We had the best and most
relaxing time here than we have had anywhere we have ever stayed. It
was well kept and the owner was very friendly and helpful. The
description of the place was very good, everything they said it was and
more. So peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed the area around the town and
the other towns as well. So many things to do in the area that we
could not do them all.
Yes I would recommend this place to my friends and relatives. It
was so relaxing that we hated to leave. The owner was very nice and
very helpful, all though there was nothing more that we could have asked
for. Just a fantastic time. Would very much consider staying there
again.
Perfect in every way!

My husband and I stayed two nights in this beautiful cabin for our anniversary. I cannot say enough how perfect and peaceful this place was. We spent a lot of time on the screened in porch and in the hot tub relaxing. My husband did a lot of fishing and caught several big bass. The owners took great care in the details of this home. We cannot wait to come back!

This is more than a cabin, it's a beautiful home, tastefully decorated with all the modern amenities you could expect. Everything is supplied and more, TP, paper towels, salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard and on and on. The hot tub is awesome, very high end and impeccably maintained, you will not be afraid to jump right in and enjoy. The screen porch is just wonderful, very well done and nicely furnished. The beds are very comfy, high end mattresses, no problem sleeping at all. Many stores are nearby and easy to get to. The owners are quite friendly as is their dog. It is secluded and it is quiet, do the wine tour and a Zipline canopy tour just opened south of Blue Sky winery, ask about it. They have 8 ziplines, very safe and nicely done, I think it is a must. Rustle Hill winery has awesome food and is a real cool vineyard. Enjoy your stay!

My best friend and I just spent the weekend at Doc's for a girls' weekend, and we had a wonderful time! The rental process was simple, and Tanya is a wonderfully friendly, thoughtful lady! I really enjoyed working with her to set up our reservation. The cabin itself is very easy to get to, and it was in great proximity to the wine trails, Garden of the Gods, and Carbondale/Marion. When we arrived we were amazed at just how precious it was! Tanya has really outdone herself with the decorations. It has that perfect comfy cozy feel for a relaxing weekend in the country. Not only was it expertly decorated, but the amenities were high quality and up-to-date (lights, shower, hot tub, air, EVERYTHING worked perfectly), and it was just SO clean. Not a speck of dust in the place! I enjoyed sitting on the screened-in porch drinking coffee, and Laura enjoyed the awesome hot tub! We both agreed that we will definitely recommend this rental for a visit to southern Illinois! Thanks, Tanya!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin was immaculate. Although a bit of a drive, we also took in Garden of the Gods and Rim Rock. Both were very nice hikes, especially since the weather was an unbelievable 70 degrees in November. Hope to return to the cabin in the spring and check out some of the nearby bike trails.

My husband and and loved our mini getaway at Docs cabin.. It was so relaxing and the cabin was equipped with just about anything you needed. We always try to find a cabin with a screened in porch to sit out in and this one was great. It even had screening underneath the floor planks so it was totally bug free... We sat out one night on the porch and watched a storm roll in and the sky was all lit up with lighting and was a beautiful sight to see. The hot tub was so relaxing at night under the stars. The beds were comfortable and the cabin was super clean and decorated very nice. It still had the new cabin smell to it. My husband caught a bunch of fish in the lake so he was happy. We also enjoyed our daily visits from the golden retriever, Daisy and her friend. Tanya, the owner, was very helpful and even supplied us with some free bait for the lake. We took in the scenic drive through Larue Pine Hills which goes on top of the bluffs through the forest. It was really a spectacular view.. We also drove to Giant City state park and ate in the huge lodge. It was built in the 30s and has that old lodge character that many parks don't have anymore. I can't really think of anything negative to say about this cabin or the service. We would recommend this cabin to others and would come back again.

We would recommend this cabin to anyone! It really is the perfect little get-away in a very peaceful setting. There was always something to do and at the same time you didn't have to do anything. We brought our kids and they also had a great time. We did a lot of hiking and fishing. Even caught a 10lb bass in the lake! We all loved the hot tub, too. Everything inside the cabin was clean and fresh, and they even provided a lot of necessities. And Tonya and Robert are very welcoming. We would love to go back again someday and miss it already!

I asked for quiet, peaceful seclusion as far away from "civilization" as possible so I can decompress. Cell hell was a bonus. It was exactly what the doctor prescribed. Beautiful, quiet, peaceful and so far removed that the only sounds around me were the frogs, crickets, owls, fish and the wind blowing through the trees. A slice of heaven on earth. The house was beautifully built and decorated. The kitchen was a pleasure to use as was the hot tub. I highly recommend this vacation spot. Tanya, Robert and daisy were excellent hosts.

Calling this home a cabin can be a little misleading - it was beautifully appointed with all the comforts of home (and more!) The home was very clean, comfortable and inviting. The location was superb - not another home in sight - and offered a beautiful view of the lake from the screened-in deck (a great place to read, eat and relax with plenty of room to comfortably gather). And while the home itself was secluded, it provided easy access to shopping, restaurants, vineyards and hiking.
Tanya was a gracious, generous and thoughtful hostess - from our first contact and throughout our stay. She remembered that we would be celebrating our son's birthday and upcoming wedding with a card and small gift for the couple, and even a mini-birthday cake that her grandmother had baked for him.
We would definitely recommend this home to others, and hope to return ourselves in the future. Selfishly I'm afraid it might be more difficult to book a reservation once word about this delightful vacation rental gets around!

Fishing Questions
How big is the Lake?
Docs Cabin sits on a small 6 acre lake built around 25 years ago.
Is there a lot of fish in the lake?
Yes, there is crappie, bass, catfish and bluegill.
Is there a boat we can use?
No, we only allow fishing from the dock or from the bank.
You can walk around about half of the Lake.
Can we keep what we catch?
We ask you to perform CPR! (catch, photograph and release)
There are no guarantees in fishing, some guests have walked down to the dock and on the first cast caught a "big one" while others have spent a whole week catching nothing but a few small ones, so our advice to guests is this; book your stay at Docs with plans to relax and getaway, not to catch the "big one" and we are most certain you will enjoy your stay.

The Shawnee National Forest and Doc's Lakeside Cabin
Just How Close Are You?
We get asked this question from time to time, guests wanting to know just how close is
If you knew the way you could step out the door of cabin jump a fence take a left cut across a small section of our neighbors field and you are there. Now before you rent our cabin with the hopes of doing just that you need to keep in mind that there are over 5000 acres to explore and people do get turned around when they don't take the trails laid out for hiking. There are many "fire trails" that run along ridges and they all look the same.
We suggest taking a short 5 minute drive and going around to the entrance of the Trail of Tears State Forest and begin there.
Just 3 or 4 miles west of the Trail of Tears entrance is another place of interest named La Rue Pine Hills that also offers spectacular views of the Mississippi River from the 160 foot bluffs and of the Bald Knob Cross, which by the way is another great place every guest should try and visit.
The bluffs that run over 5 miles along rt. 3 and the Trail of Tears State Park are the very same ones that Lewis and Clark wrote of in their journal in Nov. of 1803 as they traveled the Mississippi River.
La Rue Pine Hills is also part of the River To River Trail that runs 160 miles for hiking and with sections for horseback riding.
This is just a few of the great places to visit in and around the Shawnee National Forest and they are within a short drive from Docs Lakeside Cabin.
So just how close are we? I'd say we're pretty close.
